In reviewing the Note 8 it has come to my attention that this phone is Awesome! Whenever I need quick notes I take out the pen and start writing on the fly. Great screen, speed, power. This phone has it all. I am VERY happy with this phone and I’ll always continue to back up Samsung where they have the latest and greatest technology hands down. Will never go back to an IPhone. Can’t wait to see what the Note 9 entails.

The large 6.3inch infinity display is perfect for multi-tasking and watching videos. The dual cameras are a big improvement from previous generations. My favourite feature is the Spen. It’s awesome for browsing the web, taking notes and even drawing. The phone is loaded with tons of software features that make all the great hardware very useful!

    The best hardware!

I am an avid tech enthusiast that always “needs” the latest and greatest of what is available.

I’ve dabbled in just about everything there is to offer, and the Note 8, even compared to newer phones released, holds up as the best experience I have ever had. The screen size, resolution, UX and UI are seamlessly matched in harmony.

I have been with Samsung throughout it’s evolutionary journey since the S3. I’ve watched this company release phones, listen to the criticism and address each desire with successive updates.

The Note 8 is “the one” (actually, the Note 7 was “the one” but we’ll skip that part :)) to bring it all together.

There is just something about the way this phone feels in your hand that is hard to beat. It truly is a premium experience.

Thank you for putting such a thorough thought process in to your design.

    Are you hiring?

    neat phone

I have been using the note 8 for 5 months now and absolutely love it. Its very strong, practical and user friendly. I just wish the bixby button would be the google assistant by default without the need to manually fix it. Also the Spen comes off everytime the phone is dropped which can be annoying. Scratches are easily seen due to the curved screen so i recommend using a screen protector. and it is more heavier compared to the previous notes.

    What it does not offer

I wish I could purchase spare pen when we first order the product. It turn out to be quite a challenge to get the right one, so now I have half a dozen that doesn’t fit the product and the one that do I have to tape it up so I could retrieve the pen from the phone. It’s obviously a poor copy even dough I paid premium price for it.

If I knew that I would not have bought it. Manufacturer should be thinking outside the box when to put a product out there. It’s not because I fell asleep with the pen in my hand that I have to go for months without one. Bottom line is I paid pretty good money for this and I should be able to get the right stuff.

    Great Phone

Ive been a long time Samsung user (my Note 8 is my 8th Samsung, including the ill-fated Note 7), and I couldnt be happier with this device. Everyday performance is fantastic, with smooth operations, good battery life, and an excellent camera. Not to mention the phone it self it beautiful, and it comes with great earbuds.
I would love to see a larger battery when comparing this phone to the S8+, given the Note 8 is a step up from Samsungs other flagship and more expensive. Otherwise, the only place of improvement for Samsung is the speaker. This phone could greatly benefit from a dual audio setup (i.e Pixel 2, iPhone 7 & newer.)
Note, I do work in the mobile industry and sell phones on a daily basis, and I can comfortably say there is not currently a phone on the market I would rather have.
    Great job Samsung.

This phone is one the the most beautiful pieces of tech I have ever owned. From the screen, to the infinity display, and the blue colour.

The S pen is great for jotting down ideas at any time, or doing things like writing a grocery list.

The camera is awesome, the dual camera system is awesome.

Add in, expandable storage, water resistance, wireless fast charging, and still having a headphone jack, it’s been an awesome phone.

Some negatives would be the price, but with the features and the quality it makes it easier to swallow. The non remappable button, lack of forward spacing speakers are the main negatives I notice while using the device.

    Die Hard Note Fan

Since my first experience with the Note 2 I fell in love with the Samsung Galaxy Note series. The Note 7 was the pinnacle of the Note series yet the Note 8 was even better still. I use the pen pretty much daily for writing lists or extracting and copying text from documents. The water resistance gives piece of mind if you spill a beverage or accidentally drop the phone in water. Taking it around the pool means you don’t have to worry about potentially getting the phone wet. I have a 256g SD card for watching movies while traveling and to store music and photos. Wasn’t sure I would really notice 6g of Ram but it makes the phone run alot smoother when working on multiple things at once I couldn’t go back to less Ram now. The Note 8 works very well with the Android software. I just can’t say enough about this phone, hands down the best smart phone on the market as the Note series always has been with every launch.

To start things off.. it has a beautiful, large & immersive infinity display that wraps around the sides. Very bright and clear, crisp. The perfect media device. The camera is absolutely gorgeous! The spen is marvelous in what it can do. I do recommend getting a case as the all glass finish does make it fragile and slippery. However, if you do happen to drop it. There might be some cracks but the phone will work just fine. (Speaking from for my friend) very durable in that sense. The finger print sensor is a little uncomfortable with its current placement (at least it has a fingerprint sensor) but the iris scanner and/or facial recognition is also Amazing. Great buy & definitely worth the price tag.

Not as good as my older Note

Unfortunately the screen in this phone is terribly sensitive. I can’t count how many times I’ve dropped my older Note, it got submerged in water… screen always remained intact. This note 8 has 2 spots of damage ( weird moldy like spots) from the start. One I know when it happened. The phone fell from my pant pockets while I was sitting, doest justify the damage. The second one I can’t explain. I was in the shower and the phone was in the bathroom cabinet right before I notice the new damage spot. I can only think it was from moist in air which is absurd. I regret buying this very expensive phone. The screen also has some “blind spots” that gets me picked sometimes.

    High performance, high price

This device is great. I’ve never had a performance related issue. The screen is phenomenal, HDR is a significant pro, especially coupled with 4k content. This is quite honestly the nicest looking screen on the market.

The camera is good, although the “live focus” is a tad gimmicky. Although I do appreciate the pro mode with some DLSR features like shutter speed and exposure selection. There’s better overall colour representation from other devices, but that’s a nitpick. The dual camera is also pointless.

Actually using the notepad function is quite useful and very accessible and intuitive, and has simplified some daily tasks for me.

Kudos to Samsung for de-cluttering and getting rid of a lot of the bloatware that plagued previous devices.

The build quality is there too, the device is heavy, but manageable. It feels substantial. It looks even better. Only problem is that size becomes a bit of a beast once you put on a case. And all that glass… Just so fragile.

The only downside is the cost. Depending on the carrier, dropping to a S8 or S8+ is significant savings and very similar performance. Sometimes it just feels like I’m paying 200 dollars more for a pen, especially considering that the the dual camera isn’t really necessary given its limited use.

i am not happy with the pen and screen, which is the only reason i bought it. the edge curve of the screen is so annoying when you need to write or draw. it makes no sense to put this on the screen of a note, not even to make it fancy. very poor design choice. i would return it if i could find another appropriate phone, unfortunately only samsung makes a beautiful phone with built in stylus like the note. pen is sometimes unresponsive.

The note 8 was a great step up from my Note 5. I use the S Pen often and for me this was a major attraction. Its great that this phone also has a great screen, nice size and fantastic performance.

I play the odd MOBA game on my phone and browse the web. The size is good enough that I dont need to reach for the tablet. Love the ability to take the pen out and take quick notes or edit PDFs.

My only wish list items would ve for a flat screen (remove the bent sides) this is to add to the surface area and give me more writable pen space and to add some stereo speakers. The launch price would be a hard pill to swallow if my work was not paying for the device.

Kudos to Samsung for keeping a headphone jack and leading the way in wireless charging and battery performance.

I have always been in love with the note series every since my Note 4.
The Note 8 can do so many things and Bixby is truly useful.

My only nitpicks are that the camera and fingerprint placement can be made easier to reach (not that I have a problem reaching it) in terms of ergonomics. For example, the S9 with the camera placed vertically instead of horizontally would make it easier to reach. Additionally, the battery life can be longer as I remember my Note 4 was a beast among beasts of phones yet the Note 8 did not necessarily live up to that name.

Of course a premium phone comes with premium pricing and love how Samsung has a financing option to take advantage of.

Overall, I still love the phone since day one of its release and look forward to further improvements to Samsung phones.

    S Pen a problem

The phone is fabulous but the S Pen is weak at its joint. I and others on the net have had their pen split just under the Samsung name. The cost of a replacement is outrageous. Given that the stylus is one of the main reasons to buy a Note, Samsung has to correct this issue.

This is a power user’s phone

I have been a Note fan since the Note 5.

    I LOVE the s pen.

There are some people who review the Note 8 and say they don’t use the s pen after a while… you need to train yourself to use it because once you get in the habit of using it you won’t want to go back.

I use the the S pen for screen off memo all the time. I hand write notes in Samsung Notes to keep myself organized. I make cat gifs and drawings of our cats and send them to my wife. I sign documents using write on PDF… the list goes on and on.

I have been a Samsung user since the Galaxy Ace phone in 2011 and Samsung has always created features that end up getting adopted into later versions of Android. Split screen being a big one. Those of us with Galaxy phones have been multitasking with multi window since Marshmallow.

I could go on and on but I love the Note 8 and Samsung Experience.

The Note 8 keeps me organized and having fun and is powered by the awesome Snapdragon 835.

My ONLY critisim is if you max the brightness and play a lot of video, the battery will drain fast than you’d like.

Other than that. Huge Note fan and have gotten lots of compliments on the amazing display.

I love my Note. It’s my third Note for a reason.

I do love the Note series. It’s a top-end device, so you’re getting the performance of the S8/S8+, and approaching the anticipated performance of the S9/S9+. (The RAM boost over the S8 series is a nice boost!) On top of all of the things you get with the Galaxy S series, you also get the S pen. This is what I love. At work, when I head out into the mill, inevitably, someone needs me to check on something for them. Of course, if I’m there, I had an agenda of my own, so I’m focused on something other than what they want. I pull out my Note and take a note then and there, then pin it to my Always on Display. BAM! I love that and use it so much. We’re now pushing into very expensive territory, so I will likely wait longer before upgrading, unfortunately for me. Another change with the Note 8 is the tall aspect screen. This is less handy for writing as your hand has less support to write clearly. I would change that without hesitation if I could. I would change it, but never give it back. I already did that: Note 7 RIP.

I love this Phone…I had the Note 3 gave it up for the S6 edge and missed the stylus so much. Glad you guys fixed the issues with the 7. My only Complaint is that the added bonuses for Pre order in Canada were not as good as the US or other markets. I love the wireless charger and the Expandable memory card but would have really loved a VR head set, a Dex or a 360 Camera. I think it was a missed opportunity. In my opinion I would have given a choice of gift for the Preorder. Hopefully that is the case when we get to the Note 10.
Thanks for putting out a fantastic product!

    Best phone on the market…BUT…

Let me get this out of the way, the NOTE 8 is the best phone period. I’ve owned every note since the first note, I’ve also owned every Galaxy S since the first.

There used to be a clear distinction between them, the Galaxy S had the latest hardware for its release time and the Note would have the latest specs at time of its release which would edge out the Galaxy S but you knew you were getting the latest amd greatest every time.

With every release there was also a design distinction a premium yet professional look, the Note4 had the best design and felt awesome, it was edgy, sharp, the moment you held it you felt it was different.

Ever since the Note5 the Note has become recycled hardware. whenever I buy it, I’m paying premium yet I’m getting 6MTHS old hardware in 6MTHS+ old design. since its basically a glorified Galaxy S with a bigger screen and the added S Pen.

I keep coming back to the Note because of the S Pen, I love it, it’s awesome, but thats pretty much it. I can’t say I have the latest hardware.

Whoever thought the edge screen was a great idea is greatly mistaken but hey you get that extra .2 inch more because of it so you can have bragging rights on the specs sheet. there’s nothing that the edge does that can’t be done on a regular screen except the edge light notification (do people even use that?), lets have that at the expense of screen protectors that can’t fit properly and more brittle corners.

So as of this year the Note8 will be my last annual purchase, instead I’ll bump my version every two years or maybe every three years depending if it lasts or if the screen breaks before then. Phones in general have become stagnant and boring, everyone is fighting to have the best camera when we’re at a point where people can’t tell the difference anymore they have to rely on “specialized camera score sites” to see which is the best camera.

Maybe I’m not the target audience for phones but I am the reference for my entourage, and unfortunately I cant wholeheartedly recommend the Note lineup anymore most of my recommendations end up buying a mid-tier device because there’s nothing justifying the price difference anymore.

Beautiful, elegant, sleek and sophisticated. Not a thing this phone can’t do. I’ve been with Samsung for a long time now and have no plans of throwing in the towel as long as they keep this note series and the amazing phones coming out. By the way Samsung, I still have my note 7 🙂

    All about the S-pen

The screen is a bit narrow for some things and the rounded edge does nothing for function, however, the s-pen makes up for those shortcomings. The device heats up to fast to see the performance difference over the Note 4 and the battery is meh for endurance.

Now for a big one… WHY CAN’T THE SCREEN ROTATE UPSIDE-DOWN?!? you have on-screen keys… makes it impossible to remember what end they are on when using full screen apps in landscape! There are no defining features top from bottom other than the ear piece; the front face is black, only in bright light can you see it… When a call comes in or the dialer is used software could just rotate back to upright and there would be no confusion.

Thank-you for keeping the headphone jack! Could we get a stronger amp though?

Not everyone is looking for the thinnest phone ever… 2mm wouldn’t hurt to get more amp-hours in the battery…

Is there a way to put an “eraser” end on the s-pen? (super minor just asking)

Everything is so smooth without glithces. Few days ago, I start to read Amazon Kindle e book downloaded and I am so happy that phone connecting my own dictionary so well. I could not be happier. I replaced a Note 5 with the 8 and I love them both. The battery life is great, you can do everything you need to do on it and the video quality is excellent. It is a beautiful looking phone. Plus it is great that Samsung offered a free charger and memory card with pre-order and the credit card for those with Notes.

This phone has excellent features and the amazing pen is really handy in many situations. As a teacher I am using it every day. Very slick, better than S8+ in appearance I am happy I have purchased this phone. Very expensive in the mist of many other phones not sold through carriers with already great performance. We will see the future but I only expect a fare price in a competitive market.

Amazing screen. Perfect feel in my hand.
    My only complaint is this:
Why are so many more colour and memory varieties available elsewhere and not available in Canada?
Even the S9+ has two colours available in Canada but four in the USA? Why are we considered second class here in Canada, especially since our mobile bills are so much higher here.

Nice phone with nice camera, but that’s about it.
S-pen is nice too, but with the curved edges, it makes it hard to use when you need to go from edge-to-edge. The battery life is average at best. With moderate usage of emails, web searches, and Facebook, it manages to last about 20 hours. Fingerprint reader, like everyone says, is in awkward spot; it’s just too high up.

    1. Night time clock display does not rotate display when phone is turned horizontal
    2. Case has to be removed every night to charge on wireless charger in verticle position if you want to see the night time clock. Phone will charge with case on but only horizontal and then clock is sideways
    3. First phone with a curved glass edge and of course I crack the screen on the edge already and with a tempered glass screen saver and case installed.

The Note line has always been strong. Please remove the Bixby button or feature (don’t force your users to avoid and constantlt needing to manually ignore things they do not need). Focus on what you do best.

Improve integration of calendar and widget functionality (users of Note could appreciate better calendar integration).

Fingerprint reader at back of phone render it virtually useless.

The note 8 is a step in the right direction.

The note 8 has made me more accustomed to using facial recognition and voice activated commands. I must say, its awesome to talk to your device and send a message, or call up a restuarant by searching it on Google and all the while be driving.

Ive also noticed apps can run almost async. If I’m having a bad Wifi connection, I can double tap the menu key out to the 2nd app and manipulate that before the first one loads. Sometimes, I can have like 4 apps running like this.

But theres alot to be done. Everytime I say OK google it says cant connect and I have to repeat myself. Bixby randomly activates and really has no applicable usecases, besides turning off the display. I mean like points for using your phone? And why’s there a dedicated button for it?

Also, less than 6 months after the purchase the LCD has begun to show signs of burning.

Theres alot you guys can do with your products. I write little peices of my code, draw diagrams and manipulate Excel sheets on the device regularly. I cant remember the last time I filled out a web form like this or sent an email from my computer. The smart phone can replace alot of things. But it has to be reliable and innovative. Its has to work. And thats more important than sexy shapes and over promising screens, that burn. Make a phone that does things, and does them right. And no one could have thought that a phone could do those thing before.

Lead the way Samsung, it’s about time.

I can’t stand the Palm swipe thing it never works especially when you’re on a page that moves. Also on the screen that shows your time before you even go in your phone I don’t know what they call it I put a message on there that says if found call so and so and you can change the color of the letters but it’ll only let you change the colors of the top half I don’t know why it won’t let you change them all. There’s a couple of other small things I can’t remember right now but overall I think it’s a great phone and I especially love the charger you just set your phone on it and it charges. Simple! Oh and one small thing all the numbers and symbols you see through out this review was not me the phone does not like apostrophes. Every time I put one in it gives all these numbers and symbols.

Got this to replace my older Note 4. Definitely a big step up in performance and features. A couple things I’m not thrilled about:
    – no user removable battery. The battery is one of 1st things to go. Now you’ll have to send in your phone to Samsung to get it replaced
    – the curved edges aka infinity screen makes the phone prone to screen damage if dropped. The curvature makes it hard for any phone case to protect the edges. Unless you get a case with a folding front cover

Fabulous s pen and Excellent phone

I am so very happy with the s pen this version and I hope to see a new tablet with s pen soon! It draws nicely much better than my note 4. I am an artist and I use the pen to draw and animate on my phone.
I have the LED case for my phone and it really adds some nice fun with it too! I made custom led icons for my phone.
I am happy with the performance and durability. I have has this phone since lauch and have no scratches and no issues
Sad some features are gone like turning up touch screen sensitivity that was useful. I live in Canada its cold here!

Note 8 is a great productivity tool!

    1. The stylus is amazing for a photographer like myself. I can scout locations, take quick photos, and sketch down framing ideas on Google Keep, which syncs to my PC automatically.

    2. Overall design is beautiful and elegant. I just love the screen so much.

    3. Battery Life is decent, easily lasts me a day even when I am location scouting.

    4. Performance is decent 95 of the time, sometimes you experience chokes, but I am pretty sure those instances are caused by software though.

    5. Durability – so far so good. I haven’t personally dropped it from waist height or anything like that, but I don’t intend to do it either. The back is very prone to scratches, however.

Perfect balance between phone and tablet

Note 8 has a power of a tablet and size of the phone. You can do a lot with this phone that has perfect reception, camera and huge selection of applications. I am a heavy phone user and so far never needed to recharge the battery during the day. I do recomend Samsung Note 8 to all people who have a mobile office or talk a lot.

The cam is ok, better than my iphone 7s in most circumstances, but I can have a lot of fun with the 7s’ graininess in low light)..
The screen plays a good movie or vid, but the phone stays alone at home.
I detest the edge design; not a fan. Im tactile, I like to hold the phone as I choose not be leary of the curved edgés neurosis if I manhandle it a wee bit.
I loved my old Note 3 because it was fun and large, and the ease of being creative with it, well, the Note 8?

    Screen Burn-in

Having owned the Note 4 and Note 5 — I was very much looking forward to the Note 8.

I Pre-ordered the phone (got the wireless charger and SD card promotion) and started using the phone Sept. 19. 2017
Shortly after, I bought the Samsung Dex docking station and two official Samsung Cases.

Let me tell you, this this is a work horse!
The size, speed, high definition qhd+ screen, S-pen, dual camera, coupled with the Samsung Dex Dock — makes media consumption and business tasks a pleasant experience. About the only slight con would be the speaker / audio quality — Samsung should include stereo speakers.

Being in the IT profession, I’d like to say I was self-informed of the potential screen-burn-in inherent to AMOLED displays. As such I always used the phone at 20-35 brightness. To this day, my Note 5, S6 and S67 Edge (all which I still have) show absolutely no screen burn-in at all.
Recently however, since about a month ago in February 2018, I was very disappointed to see noticeable screen burn-in on my Note 8 of the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen!

I called Samsung support, which advised I take it to a local Samsung repair center to accurately diagnose the issue. Even though I know this will get resolved — it’s disappointing to know that my brand new phone will be taken apart and repaired.
I’m surprised the screen burned in so easily / quickly at such an early stage, despite my conscious effort to keep the brightness low, turning off the ‘always on display’ and ensuring the screen does not stay on unnecessarily!

It offers more freedom more customisation and I love the S Pen for taking notes and pinning them to the always on display. The screen is the best on any phone right now it’s awesome for doing everything from browsing the web to watching videos. The software enhancements with the Samsung Experience 8.5 and the 6 gigs of RAM makes a phone fly I’ve never experienced one hiccup. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

It’s quick and Easy to use. Casing has been taking a beating without a rubberized case to protect it but the phone takes a minor drop without damage.
Tricky pulling the external memory out.
Great battery life… I usually get a full day of use without charging and the fast charger cable free charger is faster than any plugin device I’ve had in the past.
Again no additional case on mine so it is slippery and tends to slide off table tops easily on vibrate…

I have 2 phones one being for my wife. I also own all previous versions so was delighted with design and package but accessories and phone too pricey during launch then dipped in price suddenly weeks after I paid full price. Disappointed how Samsung offered the accessoriers directly but i was even more short changed by my Telus corporate provider. Nice camera and notes function can be buggy at times and software freezes sometimes but overall a nice phone. Note users like me can never live without the note function so other pretenders to the throne do not exist.

Love the phone in general, it looks nice, has great specs and performs really well for all of my needs. Pen adds convenience (I’m always jotting notes down). This is always why I like the note series. Battery is the biggest weakness however. Though I typically get topped up when I’m driving there are times when I’m running short before my day is done. If you can get by though it’s a great phone especially if you’re very business savvy.

I would not recommend for friends or family unless they are extremely knowledgeable in technology to use al the features.

All the best of Samsung features and the pen works better as well. Great phone. The only down fall I have found is the volume of the music when you use the headphone jack. I use it to stream in a work / homevehicke and the volume max’s out at a decreases volume. Not hood. But wireless is ok.. Just plugged in. Still needs to have two speakers for better sound but that’s the only things I have found. Great phone over all. Had the note 2, 3,4 and now 8. Never got any version where no extra storage card or battery could be changed. Wireless charging works great with an otter box.

The lack of a removable battery is more than made up for by quick charging and a long lasting battery (full day of heavy use).

Only thing that isn’t great are the speakers but outside of that its the best screen and form factor of any phone. Really happy with my purchase and switch, highly recommend!

    The Greatest

The Note 8 was my step up from the Note 5. All of my information was seamlessly transferred over with an adapter and after signing in to all of my accounts, was ready for everyday use. Everything about the transfer was great too. My theme was applied, my apps were in the same places, my pictures weren’t corrupted. The only problem was that some of my games were not compatible with the phone. The games are older and I did not play them much but it was still a small disappointment. I would have given a 4 star rating in performance if it wasn’t for how old the games were. Everything else works perfectly with the Note 8. Amazing camera quality, easy to use features and settings, and of course the S-pen. With the Note 5, I sometimes used the S-pen to take down a quick note, but with the 8, I find myself using it every day. The 8 also out-performs or matches all other phones currently on the market. The 8 allows for ambidextrous use and a minimized screen to use with one hand. Even the fingerprint sensor is accessible with both hands. Despite people complaining about where it is placed, I have had no problems with it. Also, my camera never seems to have smudge marks on photos after accidentally touching it with my finger. The display is bright and vibrant; and can be changed to fit your surroundings, what you are doing on your phone, and the quality of the screen. The battery is long lasting and quick to charge. And, the phone comes with a micro-usb type C cable for charging and an adapter for your existing micro-usb cords from older phones. The speakers are loud and have excellent quality and the phone is water resistant. It is also surprisingly durable as I’ve dropped it many times without breaking. But, sometimes if I drop it from too high, the S-pen shoots out and you have to find it. The only other problem is that there are not too many cases to choose from for the 8. Whichever ones are available are quite expensive. But, all around this is an amazing phone with many capabilities. It’s well worth the money if you can afford a flagship device and my personal recommendation for a top of the line smartphone.

Samsung note app also has a major issue. I write an average of 20 notes a day concerning my business and every few days or so a note will lose all content. Tried everything to prevent and have resorted to screen shotting noted that are critical because of the risk of disappearing

    Expensive But Worth It

My previous phone was the Note 3, bought around its launch date. Before that, the first Note. Needless to say I was due for an upgrade.

I would be lying if I did not say I was not hesitant to buy this considering the previous recall. It is a high end phone but after I thought about how long my Note 3 lasted me and how attached I was to the S Pen, I bought the Note8.

    I have not regretted it.

The S Pen is great as usually and essential to my lifestyle. As an artist, I enjoy being able to make quick sketches on my phone while on the bus. I have even started to take class notes with it as my phone is quicker to reach for compared to a pencil and pad.

The battery life is also considerably better than my previous phone. I was happy to see it lasting 2 days with normal usage compared to the roughly 10 hours my Note 3 lasted while on its last legs.

There is a lot more I can say to try and sell this phone but in the end, the best compliment I can pay it is that it enhances my daily routine and comfortably fits into my lifestyle. I have never once felt awkward using the Note8. It feels as natural as a smartphone can feel and very intuitive to use.

And to me, that is just great.

it sucks that you cant put a screen protector on it. it doesnt work the same with one, Ive tried twice. i found i had to hard press and sometimes multiple times for the screen to read my taps, texting was a nightmare. I always have a screen protector on and it doesnt sit well with me that I cant this time around. I dont care if they used special glass and that it takes lots to scratch it.
The second downside I dont like is the rounded sides. I loved the previous shape. because of that it also makes it impossible to have a screen protector on due to the case. the case kept pushing up on the screen protector and loosened it. and I tried different cases.

Enjoying the switch-over. Goodbye old brand!

I used to be a die-hard customer with my previous brand, who originated in my home country and were noted for “security.” They lost me when they started charging per call, in advance, before I could ever talk to their tech support.
I decided to bite-the-bullet and switch over to android. I purchased myself a new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 phone. I had over a thousand business contacts that didn’t make an easy switch-over, and most of them had to be re-entered manually, which took me about 2 months to complete.
Now, I’m extremely glad I made the switch! There are a few features I miss, like my old brand could bluetooth to multiple devices at the same time, and the screen brightness on my old brand seemed to be brighter outdoors, but overall, the Samsung features outweighs that of my old brand, and being an Android, I now have the ability to download any apps I want.
I’m extremely satisfied with my new Galaxy Note 8! The convenient Samsung “chat” support (who don’t charge any fees) have been extremely efficient at helping me understand my new phone. Good bye old brand… yes “GOOD”bye!

If you are a note taker or an artist, you will love this phone!

There are so many functions on the note8 and I am glad that they designed it this way because your job gets done faster. You can multitask and have different pages open at the same time, great camera (especially at night), Bixby helps a lot, amazing screen and display (colors look amazing), and more. I also love how you can make notes and it shows on your screen while your phone’s screen is off (helps a lot with reminders and to-do lists). There are so many different features I can talk about but I would love to talk about the pen. I am so glad Samsung came up with this idea of having a pen with your phone. I use it to draw, make screenshots, take notes, make gifs, and I lost count of the different things possible with it. The pressure sensitivity is no joke. It is the same as working on a wacom tablet or cintiq. Depending on also what program you draw on (I use an app called Medibang which allows me to bring in and export psd files with layers) these functions will give you amazing results. Just wonderful, love the phone!

Missing a lot of features That other phones have.
I was expecting more from the note 8 since the note 7 was dropped. Always had note devices and don’t see much of an improvement. Oh bad the note 3 4 5 and preordered the 7.

For the price might as well get am older note 5.

It is unrivalled in it’s class and outperforms majority of the smartphones out in the market. Never seen anything so good for taking quick notes, and very easy to access those notes later. Didn’t use to note things down; now I always do. So easy to use.

Durable; been played with often by a two year old: he likes to use the off-screen note section to draw things. Yes, he can remove the stylus on his own. He’s too quick with tech. But I do have a bunch of his first drawings now!

Internet loading speed is great. Very useful for checking things on the go.

Phone is too big to fit into my pockets, but this is where one changes your pockets for the phone, not the other way around.

My first encounter with screenshotting on a phone, and the screenwriting feature is so easy to use. If you’re one to regularly search something up and send to others, this screenshot and screenwrite options are fantastic.

    Very pleased with my phone.

It’s a phone… Nothing special at all. I have used the note since the first one and the screen size is why. The phone will not last for more than 2 years. The note 8 has a non user serviceable battery. That’s a huge mark against such a power hungry device. Nothing fancy about the features. The stylus is cool but so is Rick and morty, point being they both don’t really do much. (I don’t know what those random numbers are…. there were no bad words)

The Note 8 is so close to perfection that I can not wait to see the Note 9

Love my Note 8 and everything it brings including a pretty great design, a ton of features that I still haven’t found ALL of them, and performance we haven’t seen from a Samsung phone before.

I would love to see some changes however with the Note line and I’ll go over those a little and where improvements can be made IMO below.

The Note 8 has a great design that looks beautiful but practicality is beginning to be pushed aside for esthetic appeal and I’d like to see it differentiate its self from the S line while bringing functionality back over this latest design.
The curves should be taken off of the Note series, it look great but I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to deal with those curves when tryin to use the S Pen as the curves and the narrower aspect ratio take away from the usable space for drawing a little too much. Samsung I KNOW there are a TON of ppl that stay away from Samsung’s flagship’s because they flat out hate the curve displays so it would bring more ppl over to Samsung with a flat display flagship device and the Note could and should be that device. You can have a nice rounded design that fits with the Samsung design style of late while still offering a screen that is flat and make more sense to be using a S-Pen on.
I’d also like to see the phone made ever so thicker to allow a little more battery but also it would make the device feel more substantial and allow for thr camera to be flipped vertical so that fingerprint sensor sensor is where it should be under the camera. I’m a very large man with very large hands so I’m fine with where it is but more hate it and can’t reach it.

The display on the Note 8 is beautiful (though I prefer LCD for its bright crisp whites over OLED deep blacks, but I know many don’t feel this way) but the audio just doesn’t match the display we NEED to have dual stereo speakers that are on another level for the largest display on a flagship today to immerse the user into the content like a Samsung phone never has before.

I would love to see lastly all of Samsung’s duplicate apps to Google’s removed and downloadable from the PlayStore or Samsung’s app store IF I thr user wants to use them. I know you want to push ppl to use your apps but the ppl that are going to use them are going to use them and the pl who are not just are not so it’s frustrating the user putting them there and taking up space in storage and resources for no reason if your like me and use Google’s apps and never touch Samsung’s. This would follow the trend you’ve been going with the last couple years cleaning up your UI which many ppl are actually liking now but they could LOVE it as much as they love your hardware.

Thanks for making some amazing tech for us to enjoy and if you ever need anyone to test your products and give feedback and design ideas I’ve been around the mobile scene since my first Samsung made Nexus S which I actually bought two or three of them because I missed it each time I got rid of it. Would love to hear back from you guys

I am a Samsung lover, therefore overall, I will give Samsung Note 8 4 star!! The only thing that sometimes got problem is when using a dual screen, it will freezes after a while and not be able to turn off the phone until it drained all the battery. Also the screen felt very hot once it is freeze! Otherwise, I will give a five star!

There are many compatibility issues within several apps that I find very frustrating such as Facebook and Square Reader. It also does not connect through Bluetooth to my car Sync system for listening to text messages hands free. It does connect for phone calls and music.

    Overall a great product

Overall the Note 8 is a great device, having in my opinion only 3 cons:
1 – The most annoying issue ( and unfortunately common to all Samsung devices) is the delay on software updates. This is the one reason that always makes me reconsider purchasing a Samsung device. Android 8.1 was released in December 2017, 3 months after and Samsung’s flagship has still to receive this update. Unacceptable.
2 – Battery capacity. Even though the 3300 mAh is enough at most times to last the day, it does deplete fast and charges slow.
3 – Speaker. It’s a terrible speaker when considering the Note 8’s price point and that is supposedly Samsung’s flagship.

All in all its a great device, but unless Samsung does up their game on the next Note devices I will be considering trying something else.

An amazing return to the series

This is definitely the phone I had envisioned as an upgrade from my trusty Note 4. The screen on this device is absolutely stunning. An excellent size, very bright, extremely sharp, and vivid colour and contrast. Sound quality is great. The speaker on purchase was slightly disappointing, but I have noticed it to be noticeably louder now (perhaps software fix?). The camera on this phone needs absolutely no explanation. Incredible camera, extremely quick dual-pixel auto focus. Pro-mode and Live Focus modes make for stunning picture and video. The S-Pen functionality is still amazing, and only improved upon by features like the Screen off memo feature. The only thing I would change about this device…. is to depart from the infinity screen. Yes it is gorgeous, yes it fees like it melts in your hand…but for myself and a lot of note enthusiasts I have spoken to – it is impossible to find an effective tempered glass screen protector that works, has no loss of touch sensitivity, provides a proper seal, and is case friendly.

Most features are good, screen is fragile

I have purchased 3 Note 8s since October and two of them have a scratched/cracked screen already. The screen is just too fragile. We had screen protectors (from Samsung) on them and they both shattered with the smallest impact. Dropping cell phones is a reality – even for non-clumsy folks – the hardware needs to be tougher.

Our old Note 4s were very durable and rugged. They must have been since we had them for almost 4 years!!

I do not think the Note8 is as intuitive as it should be either. With the Note 4 it was just a few taps to find a feature now we have to almost always Google how to do something.

I like the size of the Note8. I like the Pen, and use it everyday for work stuff. Overall all cell phones have there drawbacks and performance issues and I don’t think the Note 8 is any worse than anything else on the market so yes I would buy another one and yes I would recommend it. At the end of the day it is an awesome little supercomputer in my hand with great Camera and Video capabilities that allows me to access the world instantly.

    Not Note’s finest hour

Screen’s clarity and colour is great as always, and performance is solid. Its still light for its size and no part of it , including the pen, feels flimsy. Would have preferred the extra screen to actually be with the rest of the phone and not just used as awkward hot keys.

I have been using Note model phones for a while as I have big hands and enjoy the larger line of phones.I kept my note 6 through the lifespan of the 7 so this was my first with the curved screen. I was skeptical about the edged screen as I saw no value in the addition of it, but I gave the phone a chance due to Samsung’s track record with me (again I missed the 7 😛 ).

My job requires me to be moving from building to building so im always on the move and use my phone as my work computer at times. Its screen size has always been large enough to allow me to present to clients if my tablet is running low.

When I first bought it I could not find a screen protector that would cover the entire edged display which started to worry me. I bought one anyway and decided live with a bit of my screen unprotected. My case was a Samsung Protective Standing Cover and since it was designed to allow full access to the edged screen so it only protected the phone in cases of being dropped on its back (you can see where this is going).

Sure enough after 5 months of use the screen cracked right at the apex of the curve. The drop was from my hand to onto the corner of a desk, the drop was about a foot. No internals were damaged and it still preformed great but I was disappointed how easily this phone went from my mobile workhorse to something I only use in mobile emergencies if I cant get to a work station. I have actually gone back to using my Note6 even with the minor hardware downgrade.

I dont feel the quick actions and the lock screen notifications that work with the edge screen justify an entire design change of the phone.

If the next model of Note has a curved display I will look elsewhere.

The fact that it wasn’t waterproof contributed to bricking it 2min after I took it outta the wash. – when receiving long text messages the phone does not allow you to just read the message as a whole. You will only get a portion and then have to open the message up to continue reading it. UPDATE PLEASE!!!!!!!!
    – finger scanner being located on the back (if you have nails and a case that actually protects the phone, FORGET IT!)
    – a bit big & heavy
    – facial recognition, tested this out….if you put a photo of yourself up to the phone it will unlock
    – if you drop your phone alot, get a case! Glass phone isn’t the best and the cost to replace the front screen is stupid expensive
    -more variety in default ringtones

    – customized phone to your liking
    – cool features (If you remember how to use them)

    I love this phone.

I had the note 2 and had it for years and it performed perfectly to this day. The note 8 has not slowed down yet. I am looking forward to the new Android features that will make it better. The only flaw in my mind is that some apps and links are located right in the curve of the screen making them difficult to open/close. The makers of the software of course should consider this when placing these links. You tube is the most often case. Otherwise the Note 8 would be 5 stars in all catagories. I am looking forward to this phone lasting years to come and what the future holds from Samsung and to them I say Bravo!

    EULA too open

I don’t use most of the extra features of this phone because the permissions for the EULA are far too much. In this day and age, how can we trust a company with every bit of our personal information when we give them permission to use it as THEY see fit? I won’t agree to EULA so much of the Samsung software doesn’t work.

    The best

Yes, I think that I have the best phone with the note 8! I really like it! I won this phone because I didn’t have the money to buy it. For the next note, you should work on the price a bit.
Otherwise, the finger scan is not at a good place; it was great when the phone had the fingerprint scanner on the front!
Bixby is not offered yet in French canadian so I use a lot Google recognition voice and not Bixby. The Bixby button is also unnecessary from my view since we can slide on the left to access Bixby. I would have like to use Bixby and it’s looking very powerfull but not in my language.

I don’t use a lot the two lens for photo but the front lens could be better. The idea of two speakers that is used on the s9 should be implemented I the next note.

The always on display could be better with a larger choice of kind of display and also not only the little square.

For the VR headset: it could be great to have a samsung switch to access the Google VR app and all the content. So the user could have the access to samsung and Google product.

Really not happy about the quality of the video for the gear 360. Xiaomi and go pro are doing far more better 360 cam So, I’m very disappointed to have put all that money on the gear 360.

I’m very critic here but remind that I think that the note 8 is the best phone even today after many other company phone release.

It’s a little too easy to accidentally “pocket dial ” and a little tricky to try and bring up the screen to disconnect the call. The asleep screen is a little too easy to wake up when you don’t it to. Other than that, I am in love with how many features there are and how easy it is to use them. It is easy and fun to personalise to every type of person. The size is perfect, the full screen is practical and enjoyable. The swipe keyboard makes texting a breeze. I honestly didn’t think I would switch teams but now I’ll never go back. This phone is way too practical and easy and fun to personalize.

Bixby needs some work but, for being a new assistant I can’t really say anything bad other than being able to re map the button. The S Pen is a nice little feature, I use it mainly to copy and paste from within messages and use it for smart select as well.

The new Note 8 doesn’t have that. Hopefully in future software updates it will be reinstalled. Otherwise excellent phone.

It does not allow for a heavy duty protective case like I normally like to have and I am constantly worried about damaging the screen. The glass screen protectors do work but can get expensive to replace often. Also the S Pen can get a little buggy on occasion (may need replacing) but is an otherwise awesome feature. Still the best phone I have ever owned and that is coming from an (ex) iPhone loyalist.

The current generation Note 8 offers a nice mixture of performance, battery life and features with a very usable large screen. The device is easier to handle then previous models, especially when used with one hand. With moderate usage the battery lasts well over a day and has never been an issue in the 6 months so far. The edged screen is something you can get used to and I personally thought unnecessary untill I used a non edged phone and thought something was missing in my field of few. Overall it has not had any crashes or other oddities in the past 6 months. Things that bother me about the Note 8 would be that the speaker is located in an awkward position and the camera zoom is ok but would love a wide view angle in future applications. Would highly recommend, keep it up Samsung!

This is my second Note product and I am very happy with it. Good size, loads of features, powerful and very customizable.
    My two main complaints are:
    1. The battery could last longer. This is a large, high performance computer. Make the battery a bit larger and it would last longer.
    2. There is too much bloatware installed from the factory. I understand why it is put on there but at least let me uninstall ALL of it. I can uninstall some but others can only be disabled or not even that.

    Best phone in the market

I am a Samsung person. I have owned the galaxy S3, S4, Note3, Note 4, Note 5, Note 7, S7 Edge, S8 and Note 8. I keep coming back because of the increased speed, versatility, screen, cameras and general usability.

The Note 8 was a welcome addition as I was an early adopter of the Note 7 and did not want to let it go. I had as a replacement, the S7 Edge and filled by the S8 as a work phone. Though I still enjoyed the phones, I missed the pen. I utilize the pen on a daily basis for signing documents, doing crosswords and taking notes.

Samsung Dex – I use the dock on a daily basis and am starting to use it more for work than my provided laptop. I love the simplicity of design lack of clunky click throughs. The adoption of larger screens through Microsoft and Citrix make the work functionality actually faster than my internal network for performance. I also use Dex with my S8 and have noticed that v the processing power can be limited but I have yet to experience the same with the Note 8,likely due to its increased processing speed. One thing I’ve noticed is the lack of functionality of Bixby while in Dex mode, I find this quite surprising due to them both being stock products from Samsung. Additionally I would like a headphone jack on the dock as how to deal with sounds with the dock is an after thought.

One negative with the design of the phone is the glass back if you want to use the phone without a case S’s it is slippery and you feel like you’re holding a ming vase and it’s not a question of if but when you’re going to drop it.

Overall this is the most functional phone on the market. The best thing about these phones is the ability to add external storage without compromising waterproofing.

The camera functionality in this phone is fantastic, pure and simple. The side window menu is super helpful when you remember it’s there. Face recognition needs alot of work. When you want it to work it simply won’t and then works when you’re halfway through entering a password, sick with fingerprint entrance if you want reliable quick access.

Overall, best phone you can buy if you want one phone to do it all!

    Please bring back removable batteries

For those of us who utilize our phone a lot during the day (e.g. taking notes in meetings) the battery can be insufficient for continuous use. With my Note 2 and Note 3, I invested in a charging cradle that included a charging port for an extra battery and then rotated between three batteries- one on charge, one in use in my phone and one kept in my pocket to swap into my phone as needed.
A non replaceable battery denies me this capability

This phone is really good. The 2 things I would of changed are, 1. Go back to having an ir blaster on it, I miss the days of using my note to control tv and such. 2. The pen slot, I use my note for work as a truckdriver and the pen ejected and I’ve lost it 2x , currently I figure out my old note pen fits and I’m using that now.

The screen can be used in full sunlight.
The phone never needs a reboot.
It’s well worth then money and probably will be full 5 star to anyone that d oklnt need ir blaster and is more careful then me with the pen eject 😉

Havent had any issues with that myself, and Im a relatively heavy user. Speakers could be louder. Also I havent owned a smartphone yet that I would be comfortable dropping this one included. I guess durability could be improved. Overall im impressed. It could be awhile before I upgrade again.

    Who needs a tablet?

I was looking into getting an all-in-one tablet for work, because I felt that in this age of technology, a book full of paper was wasteful and unnecessary. I also couldn’t password protect a book containing sensitive information. I have had the Note 8 since it was released in October, and since then, I haven’t thought about a tablet at all. I had the Note 3 before, so some features were similar but much better. The main feature that has myself, as well as coworkers impressed, is when I need to take a note, all I do is pull out my Note 8, remove the S-Pen, and write directly on the lock screen, as though I have a very large sticky note and pen in my pocket at all times. Beyond that, I love the combination of water resistance and the dual cameras. When I can’t take my large camera out due to heavy rain, the Note 8 has been an amazing photographic tool and I don’t have to worry about it being damaged. I have created a few of my best photos with the phone. The Note 8 has been exceptional when using it for work, as well as play. Video streaming services look excellent on the large screen, and games look great and work smoothly with the processor. I have never found myself wishing for more processing power. Using spreadsheet or document apps have been easy with the large screen. I would definitely recommend the Note 8 to anyone interested in a phone that is both business tool, and everyday-life multi tool. It is an exceptional phone.

A worthy successor to the note series.

Although the differences between the Note 8 and the S8 are not night and day, the subtle differences make the phone very special.
First things first, the stylus is back and better than ever. As a productivity tool nothing bests the note series simply because of this. The new commands, improves responsiveness, and upgraded feel of the stylus are a welcome haven for those missing the note 7 and hanging onto the 4 or 5 looking for a sign from up above.
Secondly, the camera is outstanding. Although I must admit I would like to see fiber control of the shutter and iso (I know know you can change the limits Samsung, 10 seconds is not long enough) the photos still look amazing. Small complaint being the portrait mode, which is usually worse than Google’s software created portrait shots. However, you can get the Google camera ported on the note so… You have both options, plus I’m sure they will iron this out in the future.
As for the device itself, it had outstanding battery life (2 days for me), great and accurate GPS, and a screen that puts the I phone x to shame. The rounded but still slightly square design of the screen is much better than that of the s seriesi find because it gives you much more workable space and doesn’t trim apps/videos as much.

the waterproof-ness is good. i’ve spilled drinks on it 5 or 6 times and I just wipe the liquid off without worrying about it affecting the handset performance.

    Stereo speakers would be nice…

including one adapter from usb-a to usb-c was nice, but for this price why not 2 or 3? what do they cost, 5 cents?

The note 8 has blown my exectations out of the water and has made me very proud to brag to my friends and family about it. My only downside is that my carrier does not sell phones so I had to go through Samsung directly to buy it out right for a very high price, which is no fault to samsung. But as time has gone on I truly believe it was worth the money as I am still learning about using the phone and I am still impressed 6 months later.

Now that i’ve had this phone for a while, I noticed that there are some flaws, one of which is that it is laggy. When I had the iPhone, it did not lag and was very fast. This phone takes long to start up and it does lag after having it for a few months (6+ months). I don’t like when it lags or when it’s slow to start up. They need to fix that because that is the biggest problems with Androids.

Love my note 8. Recently made the switch after being an iPhone guy for years. With that said, there are some bugs in the programming that disappoint me. Sometimes the phone does some wonky things. Most of the bugs show up while using the phone for actual phone calls. Sometimes it will glitch out while I’m talking to someone and the “in call” menu just disappears. No way to hang up from the call or access mute and speaker phone features. Someone is still on the line but the phone acts like I’m not on a call, as far as the on screen menus go. Overall a great phone but they need to get the programming cleaned up.

Great replacement for my Galaxy S6!

The best phone I ever had has to be my Galaxy S6 and this Note 8 is a worthy successor. Everything about it is improved, except the poor fingerprint sensor placement… Really, what were you thinking? Now fixed on the S9 but it should have been fixed on the Note 8. I only use it for specific apps for that reason.

Another miss: the speakerphone is not loud enough. Also fixed on the S9.

Bixby is as useless as a VHS player. It does not speak my language and I doubt I will ever use it even if it does.

This phone has it all : stylus, dual-camera, waterproof, headphone jack, 6gb memory, memory expansion slot, wireless charging. That is why I chose it.

My main issue though has nothing to do with the phone: Samsung needs to improve on the delivery of updates. We will likely get Oreo in April; by then Android P will be released. That is just pitiful.

Great phone but don’t like the curved screen

The Note 8 is my 3rd Note phone. Note 3, Note 7, and Now note 8.
I think I prefered the Note 7 overall and don’t see a huge improvement between the 7 and the 8.

I miss the IR sender that was in my Note 3 which allowed me to control television, stereo, camera, etc.

I like that it keeps the headphone jack!!! I do not want expensive wireless headphones for most of my uses.

I love the screen quality and brightness, but the edge panels are a gimmick in my opinion that make the phone more difficult to protect in a case and make screen protectors more difficult to install and easier to break. My wife broke the screen on her s8 way too easily, and my Note 8 screen protectors only last a few weeks… The flat screens lasted way longer.

    Excellent Note 8

Having had a previous Note, I was impressed with the upgrades.

I do like the display and the ability to adjust to my desires.

I think Bixby is a bit of a gimmick – perhaps I have not learned to use it well.

Overall it is impressive and a good product.

I have been waiting for this phone ever since i had to give back my note 7…twice! Lol

It is everything i expected and more!

The only con i have woth the note 8 is that it is very delicate. I have purchased the samsung flip cover ( with the transparent cover) and had it on sinve day 1…the phone still managed to get bruised a little on top…

Other than that, i only have good things to say about that phone! That S pen! Wow 🙂

I got this Phone around October and man is it awesome. My only real complaint is the battery. It really could be better but other then that It performs great, Looks awesome, and is perfect for my daily driver. If it was a bit cheaper, I could overlook the battery being not the best. Its still a great product and I hope the Note 10 or whatever they call it will be even better.

Pictures are amazing. SPen Is amazing. Just honestly an all round amazing phone. Just get a good case and don’t be cheap.

This is too high end a smart phone for this to happen!
    Love the multi-app feature.
I have large hands so size is OK. But perhaps too large for small hands.
Cannot connect to Desktop Dock with Otter Box protector.

Screen size is great, software and design issues are a challenge

Like most Note8 reviews, great device, neat featureset, innovative stylus functionality but design issues of fingerprint reader location (addressed in 9’s presumably) and continued Android instability and/or quirkiness can be a time waster.

Note 8, The Best Accessible Phone for Creatives

The note 8 with its built in spen makes it the best phone around for creative individuals like myself. Its large screen makes for comfortable drawing and the spen is of proffesional quality which is a must. I would not buy another phone without a stylus and I look forward to buying another note device in the far future.

The only real cons when it comes to the note 8 is it software features which have some inconviences. For instance, the multi task feature is only offically compatible with some apps even though you can force most apps to work with it anyways. But these unsupported apps do not show up in your multitask app list, so you have to take the time to find the app on your home screen instead. It gets very tedious after awhile and there are more note 8 features like this one that could be made more convenient without combersome workarounds.

All in all the note 8 is a fabulous phone and I would recommend it to anyone.

Fabulous phone, my third note. Screen is amazing, performance is excellent, love the edge software and the pen, especially the instant note taking.

Only con would be the weight, it’s a bit heavy for reading a lot in bed.

    I expected more

Pretty disappointed in the phone as a Note flagship. From S series to Note there had always been more distinct differences. Now it just feels like the same phone but a different variation with an SPen.

My biggest disappointed was an update that came out for the S8 and stuck around for the Note 8. With Pop Up Windows and their Multi Tasking Ability.

In the past I could Watch Netflix or play an Idle Clicker Game while messaging or surfing the web. The update that was forced on us disabled background apps with pop ups unless they are now supported (which most arent).

When inquiring about this with Samsung I was informed it was for performance issues.

So I assumed when the Note 8 came out and they jumped from 4 to 6 GB of RAM with an upgraded processor, there would be at least an option to enable it.

    I was wrong.

Pretty disappointed as I never had an issue before.

    great hardware, flawed software

I find the hardware an improvement, it is fats and fingerprint and other technology are useful enhancement that work reliably. Most of the software is inferior in features and user friendliness to the software on the Old Note 2. Most particularly the email and contact app’s. I also do not like being forced to install updates, on the old phone it was optional, the updates sometimes cause instability.

I tried to use his Iphone ; however, it is totally not my cup of tea. The quality shows on taking video and pictures are undeniable. Even though some people said the colors and images show on Samsung phone are too bright and not like the true color as Iphone does, the overall testing on Note 8 camera is still ranking on the top.

When I got this phone I was so excited to have one of the top raking phones in the world. However this device do crash, freeze, and slow down from time to time which I did not expect from a phone of this high end range.

The knox software also has some bugs that interferes with the apps within it. The apps opened from Knox would freeze the phone and the only way to come out of this is the clear all apps and restart.

Using Spen is a skill and if you don’t really know the features well Spen could go all rusty inside the phone without any use. ( you did not buy note to just scribble wih the Spen.

I still love many features of Note and will continue to be a fan of Samsung products. Hopefully Note 9 comes with strong built software and some usefull features like complete waterproof and facial recognition and ofcourse with more gigs and juice.

Need a computer on the go!? This phone is for you!

I have been a Note user for many years, and every time I get a new one I always push the limits even further than the last. The Note 8 has kept up with my desire to be creativity and continues to amaze me, my family, friends, and peers. Whatever your need might be the Note 8 can handle it. I use the Note 8 for art work, creating poster/flyers, video recording and editing, managing my social media accounts for business, taking notes, reworking/creating documents, gaming ….the list goes on and it NEVER slows down. I truly believe it would be hard to find anyone who uses the Note 8 as much as I do. I rarely ever have to use my PC! With video editing an artwork the S Pen becomes an essential tool to help with those intricate areas of detail. Do you need to take down a phone number or take a quick message? The Note 8 has got you covered! Pull out the S Pen and just start writing on the screen; it is just that easy. Take great looking pictures with ease with the simple interface and high resolution of the duel camera lenses. Clean and crisp videos make it a great tool for YouTube videos/ vlogs. The beautiful Infinity display is perfect for viewing movies, and pictures; it takes your social media experience to the next level cause you can see pictures and news feeds easily without stretching the screen; you will not miss a thing with the size of this display. The phone is expensive but if you know what you are gonna be getting out of it the price will not affect you at all. The power of this phone truly makes up for it; you wont regret it!

I have changed the animations to 0.5x under developer options, I think this should be the default speed. The phone feels faster now.

I love the note line. This is my 4th Samsung note. That said, there are a few things that have been changed that were never a problem.
-I miss the physical home button.
    – there was no need for a “Bixby” (I’ve used Google voice for a while and it works) I wish the Bixby button could be re-assigned to another task.

-I’m getting used to the rear fingerprint scanner, but it was an awkward position at first. So much so that I went back to using pattern. With the pattern lock it took 3 steps to get into the phone – home button/swipe/pattern – ANNOYING! When I realized the fingerprint scan was 1 step, I gave it another go and am getting used to it.

    – I like the always on display and the screen write. Some improvement in the stylus features and integration are great.

    – Battery life is awesome and internet connection speeds are impressive.

Configuration options are wonderful and there are a lot of great features, but volume limiting (and resetting the levels all the time) make it very frustrating to use with my Bluetooth headset (my headset controls volume so requires line level output from the device to play at reasonable volumes, having to constantly re bump up the volume makes using it an exercise in futility)

The best phone I have ever had the pleasure to own.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 may come at a steep price however if you are willing to spend a little extra cash to get the best phone on the market I would not hesitate. The phone comes packed to the brim full of top-of-the-line specs, Materials, and features. I absolutely love the look, feel, and size of the phone. Many people haven’t been a huge fan on the placement of the fingerprint sensor but I would beg to differ I personally have big hands and the phone fits perfectly, the fingerprint sensor couldn’t be in a better place. Another huge reason you should buy this phone is because of the S Pen and lots of reviews on this phone suggested that many people may not use it however for me the S Pen is a daily use and an advantage. It is great for editing, and over all enhancing the use of your phone. But a phone with all these great features must have a con and for me it has to be the S Pen. It’s overall perfect however the S pen falls out easily. I had an unfortunate experience where I had dropped my phone out of my vehicle and it wasn’t until I got home that I noticed my S Pen was gone. I am aware that the phone notifies you when you are too far away from your pen however I put my phone back in my pocket and didn’t notice until I got home. But nonetheless this phone has been my favorite experience throughout all of the previous devices I’ve had. If you are looking for a phone that brings everything to the table the Note 8 is for you.

Thank you for taking the time to read my novel on the Note8.

Great phone, only drawback is the case, it is too smooth and slippery. I have had it slip and fall to the floor several times even on a surface with only a slight incline. DO NOT turn on any vibrate, it will slide for sure. It even slid out of the wireless charger a couple of times.

I would appreciate a stock android experience from Samsung. I find TouchWiz does not translate well with what North Americans are looking for in a smart phone. Bixby is dead on arrival. Please put it out of its mystery. Leave the voice assistant to google please. You build beautiful phones but the software is a miss for what today’s customer is looking for.

I pre-ordered this note 8 and bought it outright. My previous phone was a note 3, so taking in all the upgrades and new features is overwhelming. Overall this phone works great, fast and lots of storage capability. Only down side is that this phone is a little heavy and tall to leave in a pockect. Im still taking my time learning what this phone can do but i would recomend it to anyone into there phones.

    The perfect phone

    Absolutely the best phone.

If your a note user this phone is a huge upgrade and if your new to this device line your gonna love it because of the functionality of this specific phone that stands out from the rest. The stylus is exclusive to the Note lineup and users of it will be hard pressed to give it up. It comes with 6gb of ram, so it’s excellent for multitasking and great for performance.

The only cons are purely subjective and based on the user. So it is quite expensive for the average consumer but it is well worth its price for its excellent build quality, display, and the great Samsung Galaxy Experience perks which cannot be found anywhere else. So if you have smaller than average hands you may have issues with its size but I, personally, love the size and think it’s perfect for its functionality (who wants a stylus with 5 inches of useful space). Highly recommend you try this great device!!

Other than the fingerprint sensor location and the tradeoff between s-pen functionality and back durability vs beautiful design on the edges and on the back, I love every aspect of this phone. The cost was definitely steep but I hope to get some high mileage out of this phone!

I loved my Note 4 and was not going to upgrade to the Note 8. Samsung would not sell me a replacement motherboard for my Note 4, so I thought about switching lines while I used my old Note 1 as a backup. In the end, I chose the Note 8 over the LG V30 and the Pixel 2 XL because of everything that this phone can do. I was definitely considering jumping ship because of what happened to my Note 4, but I am glad I stuck with the Note line. Just wish that I could replace the battery myself when the time comes.

    The Samsung Android Ecosystem

One of the most infuriating things about being a Note 8 owner is the android software release cycle. Having to wait 10-12 months for Android O is maddening. To be frank the only reason Im using a Note 8 is because of the Pixel 2 XLs poor screen. Had their quality control been better I would have gone that direction.

Samsung would be better of embracing Android Assistant instead of Bixby. The last thing Android needs is more fragmentation. Having Samsung and Google work together on a common AI would be beneficial for consumers

I like all the things this phone can do and its big and bright display. I have no complaints of how it performs. What I didn’t like was the ergonomics the corners of the phone are not as comfortable as my galaxy 7. I also missed the home button and finger scanner in one. It made logging in much easier. The finger scaner on the back is in a bad spot. I noticed that they tried correcting some of these issues on the note 9 so I kinda wish I held out for it instead.

The screen size is exactly what I was hoping for and I am impressed by the picture quality. I love the multi-tasking with the split-screen feature. Everything I used to do on my computer I can now do from my phone. I am sure it has some limitations, but I have yet to find them. With so many cool features, it is well worth the time going thru Youtube videos to find out how to maximize this phone.

    Beautiful Phone

This is a beautiful phone. I really love my phone, but there is still room for improvement.

For one thing, I wish Samsung would update my software to Android Oreo. Currently I am on Nougget.

Another thing is that Bixby does strange things. When I try to wake Bixby up by saying Hey Bixby on high sensitively settings it does not work. Sometimes even pressing the Bixby button does not even work. Then there is other times where Bixby thinks I am trying to say things and I am not and I have turned down the sensitively settings to the lowest setting. Good thing I have the option to still say OK Google when I really need it. Google Assisstant work great on my phone.

Also, my S Pen some times gives off this burning smell when I take it out of the phone. Is that normal? I have never had a Note phone before so I am not sure if that smell is normal. It does not feel hot or anything, but it has this electronic burning smell especially close to the button part of the S Pen.

The last thing I wanted to mention on the software side of things is that I wish I could set the Always on Display to be only showing during certain days of the week and not just certain times. I use my always on display for when I am working in the office, but I do not need it for when I am at home on the weekends or holidays.

Those are the things that bother me enough to notice to mention it.

Great phone over all. Excellent features although some design flaws. The screen is beautiful but the curved style allows for few compatible screen protectors. Most severely reduce touch sensitivity and cause the phone to be almost unusable. The one brand who has a compatible Protector that uses uv gel and led light to adhere has awesome touch sensitivity but their product is trash I’m the end because it did nothing to protect my screen. That being said the screen is so fragile I have had cracked glass, with the protector on, from a month after I got the device. The lcd remains intact though thankfully, and the phone is still completely usable, so I haven’t bothered to have it fixed. Very expensive although excellent, I only wish I head out for the s9 for the most advanced features and all that extra storage. Prior to this I had a pixel XL first edition, and prior to that a note 5.

So far this has been the most superior device I’ve used in performance and image quality (capture and screen)

I took it back to my provider and received a new phone and this one has been working like a charm. It is a big phone but it has replaced all my computer time so the big screen is worth its size. For myself this has really helped me with my multiple social media accounts. This has been my first time using a note styled phone with a stylus pen and I am really liking the additional features it provides. I’m hooked for life.

I even thought at one point that I would have to return the Note 8 and go back to iPhone. So glad I did not. After the initial shock wore off I really got to playing around with it and it quickly turned into the Coolest gadget I had in quite a while.

I had an original iPhone, then the 4s followed by my last new iOS product ever, the 6s. When I got the Note 8 everything felt new a day fun again.

I could go on and on but I won’t. I’ll just saying there’s not 1 thing I am left wanting after switching. Being able to use emulators alone is worth it. I’m playing freaking original NES games I hadnt seen since I was a kid.

I also wanted to have the bright colors but unfortunately there wasn’t . So I hope the next versions have more bright colors and also available in most of the providers.

There are only two things that are a problem design for me. The Note series was a working person phone. The round curved screen means very little to me and my work issues. I always cover with a Otter Box for ultimate protection thus no need for the curved screen. The size of the Note 4 was perfect. Larger keyboard for my big fingers/ thumbs was the best. This slim design does not offer function in the keyboard. Optional design features would be great. Love the stylus pen and software. Again great for construction purposes!

It’s probably underused since there are so many features and I only use the common ones. I like how there are so many settings and changes I can do with regards to the fonts, the buttons, the display and basically anything I want change on my display I can adjust.

The only complain I had was the S pen comes off too easily. Had to buy a replacement with in the first month. I am very careful with it now so I notice it’s pops out itself quite often.

Not the phone I had hoped…

I was very excited to move from iPhone to Android, and made my choice after a lot of research and careful deliberation. The Note 8 seemed to be the phone that would meet my fairly exacting needs. It claimed to be high powered, exceptional camera, and on par with the top iPhone.
The reality of the Note 8 is different. It is a beautiful looking phone. It does a ton of things an iPhone simply can not, like true multi tasking, additional storage, and the stylus, which is an amazing feature. However, I have had this phone for less than 6 months, and the lag is almost unbearable. It randomly switches apps while I’m in the middle.of doing things. The camera is pathetic, it takes unfocused pictures and those that are focused aren’t as crisp as I would expect from a flagship phone. And the battery life is appalling, I have to plug it in by the time I get to work most days as.its hovering around 60.
I want to love this phone. I am stuck with it for 3 years. But the day to day performance is so shockingly below what I expected that I would not recommend it to anyone who is an avid phone user. It looks great, but can’t manage all the tasks it has the ability to complete.

Keep in mind, this feature only works through Galaxy S8, S8 Plus and Note 8 (at least that I know of). I’d love to have a easy founctioning button where you could send GIFS through your messages. I also have concerns that I will break my Not 8 because it ALWAYS takes hard falls, but it’s still going like new. No need to worry there. Maybe something that could improve the phone would, once you hold a the screen you’d be able to see a magnifying glass to see where yout curser is. And maybe some changes to the keyboard. I do have big thumbs, but I can type easier on other phones. With my Note 8 keyboard, I always make mistakes. It is a little hard to use. But overrall, THIS PHONE IS AMAZING.

Top device catching up on features.

I really enjoy the device. However one of the key elements here is the camera and to be honest the camera features are not that great in every day use. I have had a Pixel 2 XL and a iPhone X, their features are just there, LiveFocus is not that great and even when it is a good feature, your own mid range devices have it now, A8+ has front camera LiveFocus, this should be the highest end phone you have out on the market! yet still on an older version of Android.
This is a very expensive phone for what gives back. Sure has a huge gorgeous screen, but there are other phones that do as well that are as fast and that offer faster updates and give back features you want.
Other features the phone has are just by now days basic features across most high end devices.

    Big Money but Big Features

This is my first Note series phone but not my first Samsung. I’ve been an owner of the Galaxy series in the past and always loved the design, features etc but the Note 8 is on another level.
The S-Pen I use daily and I thought it would be a gimmick. The speed of the phone is impressive and stock TouchWiz runs beautifully.
The camera and displays are jaw dropping and I find myself taking more pics than I ever would have in the past.
Although the price is high you do get what you pay for, premium, fast, sleek, future proofed product.
If I had to knock one thing it would be the feel of the phone if not in a case. It feel like a piece of glass so you do need to protect your investment.
If you are on the fence, buy this phone, you won’t be disappointed.

I also use the 360 camera a lot. Family events as well as on our work sites in construction. We have discovered many things when reviewing the video. All and all I need this phone and use it on a daily basis.

Battery drains way too fast. I always seem to have my eye on it.

This phone is marketed to power users, yet the battery isn’t a power users battery. I have to charge it multiple times to get me through the day.

Also a built in messaging app like iMessage would really be amazing.

Dual Stereo speakers would have been great too.

    It’s a great phone but I think I got a faulty piece

I love battery life, as opposed to iphones. The features are pretty neat such as ‘ok google’. It’s fast and efficient. I don’t understand bixby or the point of bixby to be honest. I also got a phone with a broken pixel or something, theres a line that goes straight through the center of my phone which is pretty annoying. Also, there are no screen protectors or cases for this phone that actually work. My speakers also don’t work properly. I can barely ever hear anyone and people can never hear me.

Display is unbelievable. the definition and brightness makes the experience with this phone really great.
I was a little wary of the size before I purchased, it feels normal in my hand and pocket now. When I see other phones and hold them they feel tiny in comparison!
I have experienced a few freezes. This seems to be from apps freezing, otherwise the phone has performed flawlessly.
I have been slowly integrating the use of the pen into my routine. It works well, it saves notes very easily, and is proving to be very handy. The impact to battery is minimal.

Camera: Awesome in good lighting, not the best in low light situations

I truly love this phone. It takes unbelievable pictures in the daylight! However, in low lit situations, the Live Focus Mode won’t work due to “shooting conditions”. A friend of mine has the iPhone 7 Plus and it’s portrait mode was so quick and clear even in the same lighting I was trying to use mine in. If this camera was as quick and clear as the 7 plus’ portrait mode I would have given the Note 8 5 stars across the board. Still a beautiful phone, but a little disappointed with the camera.

    Some improvements but some downfalls

Overall a very good phone with a decent battery life, however there are some aspects which I am not happy with. When casting video contained in a webpage or other app that does not have the native cast feature, the audio works however no video. This is a problem with the android OS. To date no resolutions from Samsung. When you’re paying this much for a phone, the expectation is that features will not be downgraded/removed. So if you frequently use this feature, you may want to keep your old device handy.

The only thing I didn’t like is on noti settings you took away the tethering button. I use this often as I go to placing with no Wi-Fi. Now ever time a have to go into setting and find what a pain.

The physical design is terrible. Having been made of glass all the way around it is much too slippery. I have a Galaxy Note 8 and my wife has the Samsung S8 and both are way too slippery they’re constantly slipping out of our hands so we had to buy a gummy case just to be able to hold them so they don’t slide out of our hands. Terrible design. Looks nice but not practical the backing should have been a textured surface of some sort like my old Note 4 which was awesome.

And it is much too heavy. It is very tiring to hold after a while.

For the price it should have had at least stereo speakers so it would sound better. Great with earphones or headphones but terrible on its own.

It is technically a superior phone BUT you need to seriously work on its practicality and functionality.

A Great Phone with Two Flaws

This is a great phone. The screen is beautiful, the battery life is good (could be a bit better), the pen is useful, the sound is clear, the camera is amazing, and most of the features (wireless charging, waterproofing, etc.) are really convenient. It does everything well. Only two things keep me from calling it perfect.

The first issue is that the fingerprint sensor could be in a better location. The second is that the Bixby button is awful. If you have it enabled, it will turn your phone on in your browser pocket frequently. If it is disabled, it is such a waste of an extra button that you will sometimes mix up with the volume control. And you can’t set it for any other task, which is such wasted potential and a significant disappointment.

In General, The Best Phone I’ve Ever Had, but…

I love my Note 8. I’ve had it for seven months now, and I have never appreciated a phone more. When it comes to multitasking, getting homework done on the go, scribbling random notes down when I don’t have a pen and paper and the like, there is no smartphone that compares.
The only complaint I have with the Note 8 is the fact that the fingerprint reader is on the back of the phone. I know that implementing a fingerprint scanner on the front while having no home button seems almost impossible, but right now, it’s at an annoying place that is *just* out of reach. (Who knows? Maybe it’s my freakishly small hands— but then again, I think I have pretty average hands for a woman.)

This is my first Note product and I don’t regret it!

Everything I ever wanted in a phone is present on the Note ! Everything but 1 thing has been above my expectation. S pen is amazing for just navigating the phone or to take notes or coloring/art.

My one negative is the battery life. When I first got the phone it was beyond amazing for my use. I could get through the day constantly texting and checking emails, playing Pokemon Go here and there. About a month ago my cable messed up my charging port, long story short it is still worked but I needed a new cable. After getting a new Samsung fast charger my battery drains way more than usual. 1 hour into unplugging and I have 92 left usually would still be at 98.

Other than most probably a messed up battery because of a rogue charger, I cannot complain or think of any negative.

I defiantly recommend the Galaxy Note 8 to anyone interested!

The best Phone…..And it comes from Samsung

I was in the market for the best phone, I am coming from an IOS ecosystem and decided to be open-minded about my decision. Countless reviews and research kept leading me to the note 8, pixel 2, and iPhone X. What eventually won me over was all the added features of the note 8, mainly it is water and dust resistance, the S-pen and the best, biggest brightest display on the market.

Well I am here to say that I am happy with this phone, the screen lives up to the hype, no other phone screen is as vivid as this one and outdoor viewing is a breeze, s-pen I use from time to time when precise inputs are required, photo editing and taking notes in meetings. This phone is always fast, never had a slowdown once. And one surprising thing which I did not even think about was how fast this phone charges, leave it on the charger for just half an hour and you can make it through most of the day depending how much you use the phone. Camera is excellent, no complaints there at all

The only complaint is the loud speaker, it is loud and I can hear it fine, but it is not the best quality, hope for some sort of dual speaker with better quality driver set up in the future.

I am looking to get into your ecosystem next, which is Samsung VR and Samsung gear, I am interested in the S3 frontier since I have big hands but I just cannot afford them right now, these would pair well with this awesome phone, in conclusion … regrets switching from an IOS device and picking up the best Samsung had to offer, the Galaxy Note 8

Now with this Note 8 I am considering going to another brand only after having this one for 2 months, the quality is not what it brags up to be, camera freezes constantly, volume won’t turn off ringers or other sounds, slow loading viewing. Calendar App insufficient

My previous phone was the Note3. In that version of the calendar app, when the NEW button was clicked, one was able to choose between a new EVENT or a new TASK. this is not available in the Note8. It is by default ONLY a new event. In order to start a new TASK one has to VIEW the Task screen and then hit the NEW button. Very inconvenient. Why did the app regress?
The other feature that is lost in the Note8 Calendar app, is the ability to COPY an event, change a few details, and save it, maintaining the original event as is. Note3 had this. This allowed irregularly recurring events (such as appointments with individual clients) to be copied to a new date, meanwhile keeping all the other pertinent information, such as reminders and notes, intact. Instead, the whole event has to be re-written with the new date, leading to errors of omission. Very inconvenient.

The Note 8 is packed with so many features and the pen is redefined with better accuracy. The camera is stunning and takes the best pictures I’ve ever seen in a smartphone camera, it crushes the competition, everyone I’m around makes me take the pictures to send them. The Note 8 performs as well and as expected however the only two complaints are:

    1) Battery Life: The battery life is way too short and barely gets one full days use on a charge. This is based on using the phone moderately. In addition, the fact the battery cannot be changed by the consumer is a huge negative.

    2) Price: This phone is substantially more than other phones in it’s class.

I was happily surprised with the Note 8. I’ve owned Samsung phones in the past and they’d never felt like premium phones. The Note 8 definitely does feel like a premium phone. I like the smaller form factor in comparison to the iPhone 7. The camera is good, but struggles in low light. Battery life is on par with the iPhone and the phone will last a full day no problems for me on a full battery with energy to spare. I don’t use the always on display, but do run the phone in entertainment mode. The screen is gorgeous and the Spen works as well as one would expect.

I find it frustrating that I do not have the selection of cases for the Note 8 as other phones do. biggest issue with cell phones in general for women is where to put them. Unlike men we do not always have pockets and if we do they are too small. we do not always have a purse or handbag. I would love a case that protects my phone but with a lanyard so that I can put it around my neck (like a necklace) and it is always handy – not in my purse or stuck in pocket and I can not get it out in time to answer the phone.

The potential to be the best android phone ever

I love everything about this phone. The screen is unmatched, camera is phenomenal, still has a headphone jack, wireless charging AND expandable storage. It has everything you could ever need/want except timely updates. The only thing keeping this phone from dethroning the pixels is the slow updates and lack of stock android. Honestly if google had a headphone jack, wireless charging, expandable storage and a legit screen then it would be a tough call. In my mind the recipe for the worlds greatest android phone is clear, but apparently not to the phone manufacturers. Samsung if you would reduce your Samsung experience overlay to the bare minimum and release OS updates within weeks as opposed to months/years… You would have the best android phone available.

Look this is a premium device and a productivity master with the pen. But Samsung’s inability to get OS updates through in time is a major letdown here. When you have a device like this you want the latest and greatest features post haste and sadly Samsung continues to lag behind here. Sadly this is the last Samsung device I will be purchasing until they can resolves their OS cadence issues. I mean I can’t even use GIF’s in the Samsung messaging app.

Will admit the display is brighter then the old phone. Not a true fan of the wrap around a green but a proper case helps.

Fantastic display and features. Spen works fantastic for any detail level of work and notes. It’s snappy and feels solid. My only gripe would be it’s connection. I have dropped the odd call here and there but overall it’s not to bad. Battery life is exceptional considering it’s massive display. If your pushing the phone gaming or browsing it does drop quick but not unlike any other mobile device out there. The quick charge is very quick so it’s not a hindrance. On a technical level one extremely frustrating note to keep in mind is this device despite saying it supports it. It absolutely does not support vulkan api. I have yet to find a vulkan supported app that works.

The only way to reset it is for me to plug it on a computer and power off. I even try to safe mode still the same thing. I really like it for instance the clipboard, some things you want to copy and paste and with this phone you can copy many items up to at least 8 and when you go to paste it will all be there in the clipboard, simply paste 1, 2 or 3 different things and all done. No flipping back and forth between apps or web sites just to copy and paste.
And switching appointments between calendars is also something that comes to mind, with this phone that is what you do, just switch.
    It has a secure folder.
    Great web browsing features.
Finding a contact to text a message to is super easy.

    Good but not perfect

I like my Galaxy Note 8 for several reasons. However there are also a few bad design decisions too. First the good:

    – A beautifully designed phone (except the curved display)
    – It has a headphone jack
    – The S-pen is nice feature
    – Decent battery life so far (had it for only 3 months)

    Now to the bad features:

    – Curved display is a stupid gimmick that does not have any real benefit. It makes the glass more fragile and screen protectors difficult to apply
    – Samsung bloatware that cannot be uninstalled is super-annoying
    – Always-on-display brightness cannot be set manually. It is always on MAX brightness no matter what I do, so i turned it off completely (what a shame!)
    – Alarm clock can only be dismissed from the notification panel 1 minute(!!!!) before it goes off.. if you wake up 15 min early you have to go into the app to dismiss it (who came up with that?)
    – The useless Bixby button that cannot be remapped (you need to find a 3rd party app and tweak the settings to do it)
    – Screenshot directory cannot be customised. All my screenshots end up in the Camera directory and end up being synced to my Google photos.. I have to manually delete them from there
    – Last but not least, the price… it’s an expensive phone!

Frankly, I was afraid that the small battery might be an issue. Yes, you gotta tweak your device. But frankly, the screen is so gorgeous that even in FHD mode (Which is the halfway point between HD and 4k) you can’t see any pixels even if you look hard enough.

I only wish their updates were more on the dot. I wish I could get new android versions within 6 months of their release.

I miss the ability to add storage and change a battery like the note 4, but so far it’s been holding its own. Battery lasts the whole day with moderate to heavy use, I was worried about the battery after initial reviews. I would recommend a note 8 to anyone who was looking for an Android!

    almost perfect

So far I have had only good performance from this phone.

There are a few things that I would change to make it perfect.

Bring back a physical home button like the Note 5. It does not happen often but sometimes I have troubles accessing the button area due to software fighting me at the time. I had a much easier time using the physical home button for the fingerprint sensor location as well; the back works ok but is not as convenient especially if you wanna use say your thumb instead of a finger.

I have never liked permanent battery phones so I would make the battery removable.

Lastly this phone is quite expensive. So if I was to pay so much it should be perfect not nearly perfect.

The reception is better. My Note 4 was ok and then with the Note 5 there was a design change to the antenna which caused issues. The problem seems to be gone now with this Note 8 for whatever reason design or technology.

I hope it catches on; they have changed the charging port to I think what is called MIcro C ? Anyway it is a reversible connector so no need to orient the charging cord correctly, that is excellent !

One of the best phones I have ever had!

I switched from iPhone 8 Plus to Galaxy Note 8 about 3 months ago and I really love the phone. It is almost the same size hardware as the iPhone 8 Plus but packs so much Display and display is so amazing. Plus I have dropped the phone couple of times on concrete without a case and still the phone has no scuffs or scratches or cracks whatsoever, which makes this phone bulletproof. And the camera takes far more better portrait pictures thab my previous phones plus the pictures are much sharper and have more light overall and it doesn’t looks over exposed at all in my perspective. Lastly I am one of those people who use SPen a lot and it is so better this time. The pen is really precise. Overall a really amazing product and worth every penny. The only drawback I find with this phone is slower software updates as the oreo is out for so long and haven’t got it on my phone yet. But still the phone is super smooth and fast and battery lasts a really long time. Highly recommended!!

    Good overall but…

The Good: Very fast, it has a superb screen, awesome camera, and battery life is excellent! Great at multitasking. It has a ton of improvements over previous generations of the note. Overall a serious workhorse.

The Bad: Its a bit too long and narrow, I constantly have issues with adding a comma after every word I type as its hard to reach my finger over and hit the space key and always end up hitting the comma, very annoying! It has a number of features that aren’t very useful such as facial recognition that doesn’t work very well. While the Gear VR is amazing on the note 8 it is more expensive than other versions of gear VR, a bit of a nitpick but also a bit of a cash grab.

The ugly: The fingerprint sensor is in an annoying spot and there is no physical home button, personally I much preferred my Note 4 over newer generations for only that reason.

Overall: I am very happy with the phone there isn’t much else on the market that can do what this phone does.

Amazing phone… I strongly suggest adding a stick on finger ring accessory to the back of it as insurance, as it is large enough to stress hands with prolonged usage. For example stretching the thumb to the far side of the screen during use can result in dropping this beautiful phone. I love the phone, it does seem about 5-10 percent too wide for one hand operation… and becomes a two handed phablet. I still wouldnt switch to anything else I see on the market today.

Stylus is very nice to use, makes some tasks easier to perform. The write-on screen shot is very handy to use. Stable operating system. Good tech support.
Three different ways to access the same features does not justify the high price. I would recommend this device only for power users that would benefit from advanced features.

Little bloatware on the software side and massive room for storage, especially with an SD card… But Bixby is worse than Galaxy from 4 years ago. Pen is more precise than a real pen – easily the best stylus I’ve ever used and I have 2 active styles tablets at work. The only downside is the speakers – only 1 vs 2/stereo, and it’s not very loud. I hear the new phones will have that but it doesn’t help me, especially considering how much I paid. My past 3 phones have been notes and I see no chance of that changing anytime soon.

Once I turn on the power saving mode my GPS doesn’t seem to work and apps that should be running in the background just aren’t.
These things shouldn’t be happening for the price of their flagship phone.

This phone has amazing power in terms of storage, gaming and battery. Also, I recommend this phone to people who don’t care about the fancy technology but durability because I have dropped this phone so many times and it has not gotten a single crack. So, long story short this phone is really practical, thus making it almost the perfect phone.

    Absolutely love this phone!

This really is the best Samsung as of yet. I love the Note8 and the features that it comes with. Not really a fan of Bixby though and don’t use it at all. So that is one feature that I could definitely do without. I really don’t like the gorilla glass that these new Samsung phones come with as it scratches way too easily. I have quite a few surface scratches already, none are deep enough to be super noticeable, but when I have my screen off if I turn my phone in certain lighting, I can see that they are there. The only other issue I have, isn’t necessarily with the phone, but definitely with the availability of cases. Samsung seems to have a nice one with a stand, which I have, but there is zero protection for the plug or aux plug ports so it gets filled with dust and things in no time, and the otterbox option isn’t protective enough due to trying to leave room for the S-pen to be able to come out properly. I would highly recommend this phone to anyone looking to do an upgrade though. As far as I’m concerned it is the best phone out there and I love the battery life on it. I actually now prefer the rear thumbscan as it is even easier to use than the front one was, and don’t pay attention to the people who are worried about hitting the camera lense, I haven’t done it once. I do really like the lack of physical home button too. Again, it’s a new feature that on e you get used to it, it’s actually better. So get this phone if you’re thinking about upgrading, you won’t regret it!

Although high def at times, there’s static in some pics. Maybe ita better if there’s a guide how to take good photos that’d be great. Specially when using PRO functio .

Body: great screen size and colors. No screen protector that stays for more yhan 2 days. Air bubbles alwats creeps in.

Apps: there might be something that not comoatible with FB & Instagram. Both crashes or does not unload porperly. Even though both apps are updated and so is android.

    Waterproof: tried an tested. Yay!

Speaker is weak though, phone is not good for paying music. I havent found the adjustment for it.

The earphones that comes with it is not that good. Cant stop play or forward music 🙁 it always slips out of the ear. No good grip. (My lobes are small though)

Battery life: it lasts throughout the day! Yay!

Pen: highly responsive. Hopefully in the future it can be used for calligraphy style that’s responsive to how hard you press the screen.

    Great product, however noticed glitches

I have used iPhone for the past 8 years and recently switched to Samsung for the first time. Overall I have enjoyed the switch however a big glitch, which I have researched online and found other people are also experiencing, is the Edge Lighting feature. It does not function properly and is very disappointing as it’s one of the more eye-catching and flashy, sell-able features of the phone and its software. It is disappointing, and the lack of response to this is a concern, compared to the speed at which Apple normally addresses and fixes software issues. Additionally, I am used to the smart gestures of the iPhone (swiping to go back to previous screen/menu option, etc) and having to change to always pressing the back arrow is a big and more time-consuming change. Not sure if this is something Samsung can change or if it is patented by Apple but it is very inconvenient.

All in all though, I enjoy the customize-ability of this phone and the plethora of options and functions it provides.

Magnificent phone: basically a little computer

This phone is magnificent. It does everything I want and lots of stuff I just pick up as I need it. S-pen is nice to have although I seldom use it.
But, it is too expensive and the fingerprint reader is all but useless for people with small hands, placed on the back as it is. However the facial recognition works well but is not as safe as the fingerprint of course.
Also it is a very fragile phone so I have a case on it. Even with the case the edge chipped. Sturdy exterior cover would be nice.
However it is the fingerprint scanner placement at the back that caused the 4 star rather than 5. I had the Edge 7 last and the scanner was poor but at least placed on the front.
Bixby is great but I am just learning it. Using both google assistant and Bixby gets me most of what I want but I am not yet skilled with using my voice to access programs and settings.
This is my 3rd note and I really like them.

Not as happy as I thought I would be

I had the Note 2 for almost 5 years when I made the decision to upgrade. I loved it.
I originally bought the Note 2 for the larger size screen. I thought that the Note 8 with the even bigger screen would be that much better. Well, not so much. I am finding the extra size just a little too big. Too long really. It doesn’t fit near as well in all of the spots that I used to keep the Note 2.
I know lots of people like the infinity edge, but I don’t really.
I bought an Otterbox for the protection of the screen and then realized that any of those protective cases won’t work for the Note 8, as they have to allow for that rounded edge.
Because the Otterbox wasn’t going to protect my screen, I had to buy a protective shield for the glass cover
Well, now it’s so hard to use my finger on the screen and have to use the stylus all of the time.
The symbol indicating that I have the stylus out, is right in the way of where I am typing lots of time. It’s such a pain.
I have a hard time finding the functions that I need.
I still can’t find out where I can put my choice of screen on my front page.
It’s not near as easy to use as the Note 2 was.

    Curved screen is annoying.

I’ve tried three different screen protectors, brands that I used with previous phone, and none of them stayed on the curved screen. When they were on, I couldn’t select any icons or write within the edges of the phone without pressing really hard and purposefully.

Otherwise the phone is fine. I chose this phone over others for the size of the screen and the stylus, and have not been disappointed in that respect.

In previewing my review, I see that “&#039” has been inserted into my text. ????

It’s pricy. I am still working on getting used to the finger scanner position. Face unlock is not always working. Sometimes the aspect ratio of the screen makes content look unnatural.

However the display is vivid. Super sharp. It’s not my daily driver due to compatibility issues with some of my productivity Apps. It’s a fun phone. Very performant. Unfortunately the finger scanner is annoying. It simply cannot compete with competition. Too bad that even upcoming phones are not going back to basics and a simple finger scanner.

I have missed call and am not sure why, when media is on full volume. Takes amazing photos, just learned that it also shoot in raw, great bonus! Would also like my notifications to flash on the front screen, as they only visible if you click on the screen. Also, my keyboard is on silent but when I type a message is makes noise? I am sure there are ways of doing these things but I have not been able to figure them out, yet. Love all the different screens that you can get to and keep open while searching information. If I had gone to Android/Samsung earlier, it might have been a disaster for me. I have always known Samsung makes great products but don’t think I was ready for “The switch” until now. Android products and especially the Note 8 seem to have taken everything good from other products and removed all the annoying stuff! One thing I found lacking was the Samsung photo editor doesn’t allow me to input text larger than a word or two at a time and if I use a large word it will separate the word and place the first half of the word above the other half. I have been using smart select and pining the sentences or paragraphs to the screen and then taking a screenshot. If there is something I’m missing then great please educate me. As of now I’m confused why such a great phone would limit this obvious that would be needed when editing a pic in order to give instructions to my field staff.

The Note 8 has it all, a fabulous large screen, fast performance, good battery life, extensible storage, excellent camera & waterproof. As an engineer I like to use diagrams to record my ideas so I use the stylus for making notes.

I’ve recently starting using the S3 Gear with the phone and the two devices work seamlessly together.

I highly recommend the Note 8 for engineers and other professionals.

And last but not least for the negatives, my micro SD card wont stay mounted for more than a couple of days. With all of that said I do love the phone as stylus input is a huge thing for me, but Id have to admit that if another manufacturer released a decent stylus based phone Id be very tempted to see what they had to offer.

    Past Note owner- screen cracked

As the owner of Note 5, I was excited finally upgrade my device to the new Note 8. After 3 years of owning the Note 5, with no issues at all, the new Note seemed like the best upgrade for me to change my device.

After 3 months of owning, a small crack appeared on the bottom right corner above the S Pen dock. It happened while the phone was in my hand typing a message. I heard a popping sound and suddenly I left the screen was sharp to the touch.

Since day 1 of owning the phone, I’ve had it in the Otter Box Defender to ensure my device was safe.

I made a phone call to client care but they mentioned they have not heard of such an issue and directed me to how I can have the screen replaced at my cost.

I began to look into trhe issue with other note 8 owners with the same issue. I found a forum with over 40 pages of other owners that have experienced the same issue… both with cracked screens and poor customer support from Samsung.

Due to these issues, unless reconsidled by Samsung, this will be my last Samsung product and I will ensure to spread the word not to buy such products.

    Ads drive me nuts

I am thinking of getting rid of this phone. Love the phone but can not handle the ads constantly popping up when phone is fully charged or when I open the phone up. I did not know about this until I bought the phone. Why ?

Still too much bloatware Samsung…otherwise I do like the phone.

    Nice upgrade from the Note4

All the best features of the Note4 and more. Not sure if i’ll miss the replaceable battery yet especially since I kept the resolution at FHD+ (factory default – I tried WQHD+ and battery life suffered barely making it through the day). Phone is too tall and digs into my hip in my pocket. I would also have liked dual speakers.

    Love all its features but…

I enjoy my note 8 and am quite satisfied but wish there was 60fps uhd video recording

Have enjoyed using this for work (and for games). It is versatile and efficient with good battery life compared to my old phone.

It’s the best phone I ever had from Samsung but still needs some improvements.

I’m a fan of Samsung since I’m from Korea but there are few features and service that needs to be provided from Samsung Canada and Samsung company itself.
Camera always has been weak side of Samsung phone but surprisingly good this time but the tone of colours are still not quite good as apple product.
Also, in Canada they don’t offer more colours or storage capacity like what they offer in Korea or international version.
Only black and blue was available with 64gb. I wanted to get grey with 256gb like what they offer in Korea.
Another concern with note 8 is that the battery capacity is not the best. the batter run out so fast that you can’t really enjoy the performance the phone offers to you.
Also can’t this phone on my trip (When I travel around) much because batter run out even faster if i’m willing to take videos and pictures.
Last concern is that high quality video features. They need to improve the duration of videos taking.

    Great phone but…

I really want to love this device but I’m so worried about dropping a glass phone.
Also, the fingerprint scanner could be in a better location as I’m always needing to wipe off the camera lens.
For the price, I would have expected some loyalty credits towards Note8 assessories(headphones/MicroSD/Dex)

Great phone but feels really fragile.

    Love my Galaxy Note 8

I previously had the Note 5 (loved that phone) and decided to try the new Google phone. I ended up buying the contract out and coming back to Samsung. This is by far the best phone I’ve owned. The features are intuitive and user friendly. The design is sleek and feels lightweight in my hand. Love the camera, takes beautiful pictures. It’s fast, handles multiple apps with ease, and leaps tall buildings in a single bound. If it wasn’t for the location of the fingerprint scanner (right next to the camera lens) this would be a 10/10!

I like the phone a lot, it does have a few downsides though. The curved screen can be a little annoying (it interferes with the touch contols). The clock on the home screen looks terrible, it’s very poorly designed and it can’t be changed.

    Perfect in every way…sorta

This phone is a beast. Fast, smoot performance, great camera, amazing screen, but. Battery life in the note series has been declining since the note 4

Excellent on biggest priorities, issues with s-pen housing

Pros: Excellent performance, battery life, and display. Camera performs exceptionally well in very low lighting, and is more than satisfactory overall.

Cons: S pen is handy, but falls out easily. May have been an issue with my device specifically, but regardless mine fell out multiple times (while “clicked” into place and with the phone in a case) and eventually it fell out without me noticing and I lost it. An official replacement is overly expensive, so I’ll likely have to go with a 3rd party for a lower quality replacement.

Location of speakers and mic at the bottom are inconvenient and can be blocked easily depending on how you hold the phone. Mono speaker is lower quality than expected.

A case and screen protector are necessary. The glass backing makes the device slippery, and the screen developed multiple scratches before I added my screen protector.

Expensive, but I feel it is worth it. I love how fast this phone is, and as a long time Note user am impressed with how smooth everything software wise is. The s-pen, as always, is fantastic. The expandable storage option with an SD card is beyond great. Well done Samsung.

    Note 8

Very happy with this phone. Didn’t like the finger print reader on the back at first but got used to it. The headphones and audio are absolutely fantastic. Awesome sound – good one Samsung! Would highly recommend phone. Morra

    Love it

Love almost everything about this phone. Battery life is amazing. The screen. Waterproof. S Pen and Samsung Notes. I can stream champions league and send sms at the same time with very small battery consumption. Bixby is really good and complements Google Now very well. The only con is that it is a bit big for pockets.

This is a beautifully designed phone.

This is one of the nicest phones I have ever owned to date. It has nice sleek lines with the wrap around screen, and a sleek profile that fits nicely into your hand. And the oled makes for great colours.

    Excellent work tool

The device is fast, and has excellent note taking, and other features. The only two drawbacks are the Bixby button which frequently gets in the way, and the fingerprint sensor which is located on the back of the device. It used to be on the front and easy to access.

I wish there were more online video guides on how to use some of the real neat features, many of which I’ve discovered by trial and error.
